Luviro-Ivingu mini-hydro rural electrification project by Virunga Energies

Luviro 11.7 MW hydropower plant sustains the Virunga Foundation's effort to provide clean and reliable energy to communities the Lubero territory, Eastern DRC.

Luviro is part of a wider investment plan called the Virunga Alliance to provide energy access to 4 million people in and around the Virunga National Park. It also responds to DRC’s objectives to provide universal access to electricity by 2030 and to increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix. By sustainably and efficiently harnessing Virunga National Park’s huge economic development potential, Virunga Foundation is creating a model that will conserve the Park, reduce poverty in the surrounding communities and promote peace and stability in the region.
