The First Ever Wind Farm Project in Mauritania
The 30 MW, grid-connected first wind farm in Mauritania, developed by SOMELEC the national utility company.
The main objective of the project is to deliver competitive renewable energy based electricity to the carbon-intensive grid of Nouakchott, Mauritania’s capital. The plant consists of 15 wind turbines of 2 MW each for a total installed capacity of 30 MW. It responds to the Sustainable Development objectives of the state to increase the production of electricity through the promotion of renewable energies in general and wind in particular, in order to achieve a share of renewable energies in the energy mix of 20% by 2020.
