0CDM project in Madagascar
Sahanivotry small run of river hydro plant is the first hydro plant developed by a private sector company in last 50 years in Madagascar. Hydelec, the project operator, is an independant energy producer pioneering clean energy in the island.
The project activity is a run-of-river hydropower plant of 16.5 MW located on the river Ampamehana, in the village of Sahanivotry (Antananarivo Province). The plant is connected to the regional grid of Antananarivo and generates up to 90 GWh green electricity per year. The project decreases Madagascar dependence on expensive imported energy source above all fuel oil and reduces CO2 emissions caused by fossil-fuel fired plants.
