Soubré hydropower plant is a game changer to reach a low carbon energy mix in the country. The 270 MW installed capacity site has been developed by SinoHydro on behalf of CI-Energies.
The Soubré Hydro Power Plant is a greenfield project located on the Sassandra river at about 5 km far from Soubré city in Côte d'Ivoire. This is a run-of-river hydropower plant producing 1,170 GWh of electricity in average per year. To date, electricity in Côte d’Ivoire is mainly generated from fossil fuels (natural gas and fuel oil) which leads to considerable greenhouse gas emissions. The project activity will therefore substitute fossil-fuel intensive grid-electricity and cut down GHG emissions.
